Manodhara, is a foundation that wanted to spread awareness among the students about AR/VR, they approached us with a challenge: they wanted to create an engaging augmented reality (AR) experience featuring a 3D dragon with intuitive controls and realistic world anchoring, but their existing solutions lacked seamless interaction and spatial integration. This outlines a technical project in Unity (a popular game engine) that creates an augmented reality (AR) experience using AR Foundation—a framework that simplifies AR development across multiple platforms.
A 3D dragon character is rendered in the real world through a device’s camera, allowing users to see and interact with the dragon as if it were present in their physical environment. This is the core of the AR experience, blending digital content with the real world.
The user can control the dragon’s movements—both moving (translating) and rotating it—using virtual joysticks on the screen. This makes the interaction intuitive, similar to controlling a character in a video game.

The dragon exists and moves within the user’s actual environment, not just on a 2D screen. AR Foundation handles the tracking of real-world surfaces and the placement of the dragon so it appears anchored in physical space.
The combination of real-time control and AR makes the experience feel alive and engaging. Users can explore the dragon from different angles, move it around rooms, and see it interact with real-world objects, enhancing immersion.
